Adidas shares climbed 3.3% in early Frankfurt trading on Wednesday after the German sportswear manufacturer upgraded its full-year profit outlook following stronger-than-expected third-quarter performance.
The company expects its 2026 operating profit to reach approximately €2.5 billion, compared with its previous target of €2.3 billion when including a US tariff refund and planned reinvestment. The revised outlook reflects improved business performance and continued efforts to strengthen profitability in a challenging retail environment.
Strong Quarterly Results Support Upgraded Outlook
In a preliminary earnings update released on Tuesday, Adidas said its operating profit forecast for 2026 had improved by around €100 million, excluding a €200 million refund related to US tariffs recorded during the third quarter.
Including the refund and a planned €100 million reinvestment in the fourth quarter, the company expects annual operating earnings of approximately €2.5 billion.
Analysts welcomed the update, pointing to Adidas’ ability to grow market share while maintaining profitable operations despite ongoing industry challenges.
J.P. Morgan analysts also reported that, excluding tariff-related effects, Adidas’ quarterly gross profit exceeded market expectations by 2%, while underlying operating profit came in 9% above forecasts.
Adidas Expands Beyond Samba and Gazelle Popularity
Adidas has been working to introduce fresh products as consumer enthusiasm for its popular Samba and Gazelle sneaker lines gradually cools.
The company is expanding its product portfolio across performance footwear and lifestyle categories to maintain consumer interest and support future growth.
One recent launch is the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, which Adidas describes as its lightest racing shoe. The model gained attention after Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe used it in April to become the first person to break the two-hour barrier in a marathon.
The focus on technical innovation and new product launches reflects Adidas’ broader strategy to balance lifestyle fashion with performance-driven sportswear.
Investors Watch Profitability and Market Share
The upgraded forecast offers investors a stronger indication of Adidas’ operating momentum as sportswear companies navigate shifting consumer preferences, competitive pressure and international trade costs.
The latest results suggest that Adidas’ product development and commercial strategy are helping support earnings, even as some of its best-known sneaker styles lose momentum.
Investors will now be watching whether the company can sustain this performance through the final quarter and convert its stronger outlook into continued growth in 2027.
