Meta has acquired robotics startup Assured Robot Intelligence as part of its growing focus on humanoid artificial intelligence. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition highlights Meta’s increasing investment in robotics and advanced AI systems that can interact with the physical world. According to the company, Assured Robot Intelligence specializes in building robotic intelligence that allows machines to understand, predict, and adapt to human behavior in complex environments.
As part of the deal, the startup’s team, including its co-founders Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto, will join Meta’s AI research division, known as Superintelligence Labs.
Before launching the startup, both founders had strong backgrounds in robotics research and artificial intelligence. Their work focused on building foundation models for humanoid robots capable of performing physical tasks such as household work and other practical activities.
Meta said the new team will help improve its robot control systems and self-learning capabilities, especially for full-body humanoid robots. This is seen as an important step in the company’s long-term AI strategy.
Meta has been exploring humanoid robotics for several years. Industry reports have previously suggested that the company is working on both hardware and software for future consumer-focused robotic products.
Experts in the AI industry believe that training machines in real-world physical environments could play a major role in reaching artificial general intelligence (AGI), where AI can perform at or beyond human-level intelligence across multiple tasks.
